A national strategy to deal with bullying?

Dany Morin, Member of Parliament, asks for a response to bullying and harassment of children and youth in Canada

Calling the bullying of children and youth “a nation-wide problem,” N.D.P. Member of Parliament Dany Morin has been asking Canada’s government to take action on the problem for a year now. He has introduced a motion, which calls for a national strategy to prevent bullying; it was debated in the House of Commons just days after the high-profile death by suicide of Amanda Todd.

Amanda died after experiencing—and revealing to the world in a YouTube video—harassment and bullying over an extended period of time.

Dany Morin’s motion was debated on October 15th 2012. It was first tabled on the 31st of May and will be debated for another hour in approximately one month and then will be voted on. The motion does not seek the criminalization of bullying; rather, it focuses on prevention efforts.

We speak with Dany Morin, Member of Parliament for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord in Quebec.
