Karen Armstrong’s Charter for Compassion and the golden rule

The Charter for Compassion is a cooperative effort to restore compassionate thinking and compassionate action to the centre of religious, moral and political life. The Charter was crafted by people from around the world and drafted by a multi-fath, multi-national council of thinkers and leaders. It seeks to make compassion a key word in public and private discourse—making it clear that any ideology that breeds hatred or contempt, whether religious or secular, has “failed the test of our time”. An ordained minister tells his church that he is a transgendered man

picture 137An ordained minister with over 27 years of service in the U.S. United Methodist Church shared with his congregation August 30th that he was born a girl and became a transgendered man over thirty years ago. Rev. David Weekley’s story has thrust him into the public eye and earned him a national award for his work and example in the United Methodist Reconciling Ministries. (more…)

Sacred Bentwood Box used at national events of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission

picture 083Ladysmith artist Luke Marston has created a symbol of truth and healing—a sacred Bentwood Box to be used at the seven national events of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The Commission was created to help individuals, communities, and organizations alike to move beyond the dreadful damage inflicted by the many abuses at Canada’s Indian Residential Schools between 1920 and the 1970s. The Catholic Church operated roughly three-quarters of the residential schools that operated in Canada. The rest were operated by other organized religious groups. (more…)
