Brent Hirose brings “The Sucker Punch” to Nanaimo, new shows to Vancouver, continues living and learning on the fringe circuit

picture 574A new technology allows you go to back in time… for five seconds. Just long enough to take back a misplaced word or action. Brent Hirose’s hit five star one man show examines how this technology affects the lives of four people and their chance to live without regrets.

The play was performed at the 2014 Nanaimo Fringe Festival.

The play is being performed at the 2014 Nanaimo Fringe Festival, at the Nanaimo Museum venue.

Creative nonfiction story Tilly: a Story of Hope and Resilience captures spirit of hope, recovery

monique gray smithMonique Gray Smith, an accomplished consultant, writer and speaker, was at the Gabriola Island Public Library earlier this year discussing her new book about a First Nations woman’s journey to sobriety.

The book is called Tilley: A Story of Hope and Resilience. “It’s the story of one woman’s journey from early addiction and alcoholism to discovering who she is as a mixed heritage person,” Gray Smith told the Nanaimo News Bulletin. “Even though it’s a story based on First Nations people and history, it really is a story of common humanity around recovery and the ability to move past early obstacles in life.”

The emergence of these clubhouses around the world demonstrates that people with mental illness can successfully participate in society through education, employment and other social activities.
