VANCOUVER – CREST.BD, the Collaborative RESearch Team to study psychosocial issues in Bipolar Disorder, will launch its new online ‘Bipolar Wellness Centre’ on World Bipolar Day, March 30th 2015. The ground-breaking Bipolar Wellness Centre was created by a dedicated network of researchers, healthcare providers and people living with the condition and will address the barriers that people with bipolar disorder (BD) face in accessing the information they need to manage the condition and lead fulfilling lives.

Why is the Bipolar Wellness Centre important for people living with bipolar disorder?

BD is a condition characterised by abnormal highs and lows in mood. It’s common, can be extremely disabling and is highly stigmatized. 1-2% of Canadians live with BD, but many people are undiagnosed. CREST.BD’s program of research shows that people who live with BD can thrive, have excellent quality of life and make important and creative contributions to society. A key to this is helping them identify and adopt evidence-based coping or wellness strategies.

“Our research shows that a high quality of life and recovery is possible for people with BD,” says Erin Michalak, Network Lead for CREST.BD. “The Bipolar Wellness Centre provides a number of innovative tools to support health and wellness in people with BD, including a link to CREST.BD’s new Quality of Life tool, an evidence-based resource to help people with BD to identify the quality of life areas they are flourishing in, and those that may need attention.”

CREST.BD is launching the Bipolar Wellness Centre website at www.crestbd.ca with a webinar and two Tweetchats on Twitter under the World Bipolar Day hashtag #bipolarchat

Please register here to join Dr. Erin Michalak for a webinar on March 30th at 1 pm PDT (4 pm EDT).
