Is there potential for new life at Harewood School?

March 12th, 2009 | Posted by pfmarchive in uncategorized

picture 067Harewood School was built in 1914, an imposing and highly visible building—and landmark—in Nanaimo.

Recent discussions about the now-closed school’s potential as a community centre building have become bogged down in bureaucratic red tape. A public meeting will be held Wednesday March 11th to discuss progress and moving forward.

We speak with Ian Gartshore, president of the Harewood Community Centre Cooperative, and Carolyn Iles, a member of the Harewood Neighbourhood Association and coordinator of the community school program at Georgia Elementary School, about the public meeting and about moving forward toward a community centre for Harewood.
