Survivors rarely step forward with a report to the police- the reasons for this are many and are understandable- she wonders if she will be believed, her memory has been impacted, she may blame herself, she may feel shame and fear…
But this past fall something extraordinary happened in Nanaimo – a number of women came forward to police and reported that their drinks had been spiked in a downtown club. Investigative reporter Julie Chadwick did a series of frontpage stories on this under reported crime and suddenly this hidden ugly secret was on the minds of the community. This is when Haven Society decided to facilitate a community conversation and started getting busy to bring DISSOLVE to town.
