Domestic violence still remains hidden behind closed doors – and it’s time to air our “dirty laundry.”
Haven Society and other community organizations have joined together to launch the Clothesline Project to coincide with the International 16-day campaign of activism against gender violence. The campaign and the Clothesline Project run from International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25) until Human Rights Day (Dec. 10) and spans significant dates, including the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (Dec. 6). Canadians are calling for a collaborative, strong and innovative national housing strategy to eliminate homelessness across the country.
They want a plan that boosts the country’s affordable housing stock and employs new financial solutions to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people, including indigenous communities. Government, participants say, must also set clear outcomes and targets, collect data, and examine existing laws and policies to ensure fair access to safe and affordable housing.
