18 youth between the ages of 18 and 25 are in Nanaimo from October 11 to January 2 as part of the Canada World Youth Leaders in Action program. Half of the group is from Indonesia, while the other half is made up of Canadians from across the country. While in the city, the youth live with host families and volunteer in a range of community settings. It’s the first Canada World Youth program located in Nanaimo since 2004.

Kim Goldberg is an award-winning poet, journalist and author of six books. Her work has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies around the world. She has lived in Nanaimo for more than thirty years. Latest titles: RED ZONE (poems of homelessness) and RIDE BACKWARDS ON DRAGON: a poet’s journey through Liuhebafa. Kim is the recipient of the BC Arts Council $12,200 Award for Creative Writing. Tune into People First Radio thus Thursday at noon on CHLY 101.7fm for a conversation with Kim.
