Over the past year, a number of local organizations and groups have moved forward—facing and overcoming challenges and barriers—to step closer to their shared vision of helping some of Nanaimo’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens
On our program this week, we focus on three initiatives that have persevered and emerged with new locations, services, and/or facilities—and a shared “new lease on life”. Join us for our discussion with leaders from three Nanaimo people-focused organizations…
…The 7-10 Club, which has not only found itself a home but also installed a new kitchen along with a return to offering hot breakfasts…we talk with some of the volunteers and participants…
…Harris House Health Clinic, which weathered a move to the Old City Quarter and persevered through a blizzard of intense media coverage to emerge as a good neighbour…we take a tour…
…and the Balmoral Hotel building redevelopment, a carefully prepared and integrated housing and support initiative that is the first of its kind in the city.
We’re joined in the studio by Shirley Whitelaw and Cyndi Jackelman of the 7-10 Club, Darcie Davidson and Sandy McLean of Harris House Health Clinic, and Christina Martens from the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mid-Island Branch.
